The
Venue
The magnificent parish church of St Peter and St Paul in Fressingfield, Suffolk has wooden bench seating for 220 people. Its postcode is IP21 5PE. It has ramped access, toilets and an induction loop.
You may wish to bring a cushion to sit in more comfort at the concert.
The church was built on the site of an earlier church and has features dating from c. 1320. It is particularly noted for the beautiful carving on the ends of the medieval benches and for the Passion bench. The roof is supported by one of Suffolk’s typical single hammer beam structures.
In the south aisle is a portrait of Archbishop Sancroft, Fressingfield’s most famous son. He was Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Dean of Saint Paul’s and was responsible for its rebuilding after the Great Fire of London. In later life, he was dispatched to the Tower of London because of his views. His tomb is in the churchyard of the village he loved and where he spent his retirement.
